"iT'S PRETTY WELL DOCUMENTED THAT i LOVE MAPS, JESSiCA ALBARN HAS A SiMiLAR ADDiCTiON TO BEES. WHEN SHE SUGGESTED A COLLABORATiON i WAS LiKE 'YEAH!'"

- DAVE BUONAGUiDi

For Jessica Albarn, the natural world is put centre stage. Her intricate and carefully observed works celebrate the creatures we share our cities with and encourages us to pay closer attention to the wildlife that surrounds us.

Dave Buonaguidi, AKA Hackney Dave, is a lover of storytelling, the language of everyday life, and repurposing vintage memorabilia. For NATURE iN THE CiTY, Jessica Albarn and Dave Buonaguidi have joined forces to give new life to vintage London maps.

"i THiNK NATURE iS ViTAL FOR OUR WELLBEiNG, WHETHER iT'S A RAINY HIKE THROUGH THE PEAK DiSTRiCT OR A STROLL THROUGH ViCTORiA PARK WITH A LABRADOODLE."

- Natasha Searston

Natasha Searston draws her inspiration directly from the natural world in her practice. For NATURE iN THE CiTY, Natasha has created a screen print that captures one of life's simple pleasures: dogs enjoying the park.

Full of warmth and character, the work celebrates the joy of spending time outdoors and the everyday moments that connect us to nature. A walk in the park, a coffee with that best friend while we stroll along a river.

As Natasha says, " I love how nature finds its way into the city. In London we’re surrounded by flocks of tropical parakeets, streetwise foxes and tiny wildflowers pushing through gaps in the paving slabs... but we also go to great lengths filling our flats with houseplants and pets."

LEE'S WORK BRiNGS A WiLD ViBRANCY iNTO THE EVERYDAY, POPPiNG WITH COLOUR AND FORM. HE CREATES COMPOSiTiONS WHERE NATURE APPEARS TO BE SPiLLING OUT.

Nature in the city is found in our parks and gardens, and no one captures the atmosphere and emotional connection quite like Lee Herring. Lee's work vibrantly captures the feeling of changing seasons.

Lee's work captures the drama, beauty and unpredictably of nature and helps us find a way to embrace the wild in our everyday lives.

"i'M DRAWN TO THE CONTRAST BETWEEN THE CiTY AND THE NATURAL WORLD, AND TO THE CREATURES WE OVERLOOK AS WE RUSH THROUGH OUR LiVES."

- Tally Walker Warne

Tally Walker Warnes' ceramic slugs offer us something a little different, a close up look at the creatures that live alongside us but are barely given any recognition.

Her slugs are elevated and demand our attention, making us reconsider what subjects are allowed to be valued in art.

Speaking on her work, Tally says; "Slugs are rarely celebrated, so I hope my work invites people to reconsider their relationship with nature and find beauty in the unexpected. After all, we share the same world. We're all here together."

"i'M DRAWN TO THE WAY NATURE iNJECTS COLOUR iNTO THE CiTY, WHETHER THROUGH A SUNSET, WiLD FLOWERS OR A TREE REFUSiNG TO OBEY URBAN PLANNiNG."

- Jayson Lilley

Jayson Lilley's work is celebrated for its depictions of cities, architecture and nature. He builds images of environments, revealing the ways nature shapes our urban landscapes.

Working with photography, screen printing and joyous hand finishing, Jayson creates images of landscapes we know and love, capturing not just a place but the feeling of being there.

Talking about his upbringing and relationship to nature, Jayson says; "Growing up in Devon taught me that nature is the greatest artist of all. Even in our most urban spaces, nature still has the final say."

"A LOT OF MY WORK iS iNSPiRED BY THE CONNECTiONS THAT EXiST BETWEEN LiViNG THiNGS AND THE ENViRONMENTS THEY iNHABiT."

Richard Berner works across a range of mediums to explore the absurd. He creates dreamlike pieces that spark a smile. His tiny characters populate delicate images.

For NATURE iN THE CiTY, Richard has created a beautiful piece that explores the relationship between people and nature. Speaking on the theme of the exhibition, Richard expands "A lot of my work is inspired by the connections that exist between living things and the environments they inhabit. These floral pieces explore those same ideas through nature and its place within the city."

ADAM'S WORK EXPLORES THE TiES BETWEEN OUR EVERYDAY LiFE, NATURAL LANDSCAPES AND OUR SENSE OF HOME.

Adam Bridgland’s work explores nostalgia, place, and the emotional connections we form with our surroundings.

Through text and humour, he reflects on the relationship between urban life and the landscapes that shape our memories.

His works capture a yearning for belonging, finding moments of beauty and meaning in the everyday while inviting us to reconsider our connection to both city and nature.

"i FEEL AT HOME, ALMOST ENGULFED iN A HUG, REjUVENATED, jOYFUL AND iNSPiRED ALL AT THE SAME TiME WHEN i'M iN NATURE."

- Jothi Kanayalal

Jothi Kanayalal's work explores nature through free brush movements. She finds rhythm and flow and injects her surfaces with energy, pace and movement, while paying homage to the nature that inspires her work.

While rooted in the natural world, her work carries a sense of energy and movement that feels perfectly at home within this celebration of city life and nature. Jothi says she feels especially inspired in London "as the city is so green with lots of parks and protected forests offering nature trails, where I get my inspiration from."

'NATURE iN THE CiTY' iS AN iNViTATiON TO SLOW DOWN AND REDiSCOVER THE NATURAL WORLD RiGHT UNDER OUR NOSES

The range of work and approaches in this exhibition reveals that nature in the city is not confined to a single definition but is something multifaceted and complex. It is found in the small moments, in the ways we engage with our cities and the nature around us, and in what we notice as we move about our lives.

Nature in the city is an invitation to slow down and rediscover the natural world that is right under our noses. Through the artists showing in this exhibition we are reminded that even in the city, nature continues to inspire and connect us.

Together, these works reveal that nature in the city is not confined to a single definition. It can be found in a fox crossing a quiet street, a garden bursting through railings, the changing light on a familiar building, or a memory of somewhere that once made us feel at home.

NATURE iN THE CiTY runs from 3 to 12 July 2026 at EDiT. Greenwich and features new work by Jessica Albarn, Lee Herring, Jothi Kanayalal, Adam Bridgland, Richard Berner, Dave Buonaguidi, Natasha Searston, Jayson Lilley and Tally Walker Warne.
