BE iNSPiRED LONDON: NATHAN BOWEN’S SOLO SHOW AT EDiT. COVENT GARDEN.

We are delighted to announce Nathan Bowen’s solo exhibition at EDiT. Covent Garden. BE iNSPiRED LONDON showcases over twenty new works from urban artist Nathan Bowen, across two floors of our Covent Garden space.

Nathan’s signature style; fast, expressive and instinctive, transforms metal road signs, reworked surfaces, cardboard canvas and paper. Expect to see recognisable faces, such as the Spice Girls, the Queen, and Keith Flint, as well as iconic landmarks of London life, including red pillar boxes, Tube trains, and flashing police cars. Nathan’s love of London, the city where he was born and raised, is the backbone of this exhibition.

“MY PRACTiCE iS FAST AND SPONTANEOUS”

- Nathan Bowen

Working across paint, spray paint, pen and ink, Nathan Bowen creates energetic, layered compositions unified by his recurring demon characters. These demons are his distinctive way of drawing faces. Instantly recognisable, they feature sharp triangular teeth, angular eyes and exaggerated expressions. They are not sinister, but playful and characterful, acting as a visual language through which Nathan Bowen interprets the people and personalities of London. Appearing as beefeaters, construction workers, members of the Royal Family and other familiar figures, they sit alongside an eclectic cast drawn from everyday city life.

Nathan Bowen describes his practice as “fast and spontaneous”, a reflection of the energy he brings to his depictions of the capital. Red pillar boxes, Big Ben, Tube trains, flashing police cars and other symbols that define the city form the backbone of BE iNSPiRED LONDON, each rendered with his unmistakable mark making.

Born and raised in South East London, urban London life sits at the core of Nathan Bowen’s practice and identity. The city is part of who Nathan Bowen is. Nathan Bowen’s favourite days are spent cruising through London on his electric scooter, with his son, dog and friends in tow, weaving through the streets he knows so well.

A limited edition run of embroidered caps, will be available during the exhibition. All profits from these sales will go towards the ongoing fundraiser supporting gender affirming care for an EDiT. team member.
