ABOUT MY DOG SiGHS.

My Dog Sighs is a street and studio based artist working in and on urban spaces, on canvas and in beautiful high end prints. His work has the rare ability to straddle urban life while also bringing that vibrant energy into the home.

In his eye pieces, the eye is not just a subject but a portal. His eyes have become a hallmark of his practice, layered, emotional and reflective. Behind each soulful gaze lies a meticulous process, a lifetime of experience and a philosophy that finds beauty in the imperfect and the found.

"i SEE MY EYE PAiNTiNGS COMiNG iN THREE PARTS - THE BACKGROUND, THE EYE AND THE REFLECTiON. EACH DOES A jOB AND THE APPROACH FOR EACH iS VERY DiFFERENT."

The background, he says, is his playground. “I lay the canvas flat on the table and attack it with acrylic and spray. This often takes a number of days as I wait for one layer to dry before working over it.”

Then comes the eye itself, a slower, more meditative stage. “Using fine brushes and spray paint, I slowly build up the layers. I want that stare to look into your soul.”

Finally comes the reflection, perhaps the most intimate part of his process. My Dog Sighs says that the essence of the piece lies in the story reflected in the eyes. “Stories of love, loss, hopes and dreams, memories and visions. I spend longer here, in this tiny painting within a painting.”

My Dog Sighs’ art life runs on two distinct frequencies. “In the studio, I’m a Monday to Friday, nine till five artist,” he says, quoting Picasso: ‘Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.’ As a parent of two, that structure became essential early on.

His street work is more nocturnal. “That’s late nights and early mornings,” he says. “I love leaving the studio with a rucksack of paint and starting before the world wakes up. The energy on the street is better than any drug.”

My Dog Sighs’ studio mirrors his practice. He describes it as organised chaos. He needs to see everything to remember it and often works on multiple projects at once, thriving on this energy. “I’ve been in my studio ten years now; it’s amazing what kind of ‘future magic’ you can amass.” My Dog Sighs collects, and things come into use later.

A defining feature of his work is his use of found materials. “I love that they already bring their own story,” he says. “They’ve had their own life, and my time with them is fleeting. My job is to build a new layer to the story before I leave it to go on its journey.”

This sense of transience threads through his broader themes of loss and rediscovery. Having worked as a street artist for over two decades, My Dog Sighs reflects on the street. “It’s a strange place we all occupy, but often in solitude. Everyone I pass has a story. My work echoes the stories I build in my head based on the people I pass.”

LiMITED EDiTiON PRiNT LAUNCH 🎉

In his upcoming print drop, My Dog Sighs offers a long awaited edition that invites viewers to engage and connect. The vibrancy and energy of the background, combined with the realism and gentle gaze of the eyes, creates something truly magical.

Having spent years working in muted tones, this new piece bursts with energy. “It kind of painted itself,” he admits. “The reflection is deeply personal, but I won’t tell you what’s behind it. That would influence your interpretation. You tell me.

As My Dog Sighs says of this new work, and of his practice in general, “My job is to make it. Your job is to feel it.” It is simple, but it sums up his work perfectly. It is for the viewer, and it takes us on a personal journey of discovery and introspection.

My Dog Sighs strives to create feeling. He does not mind what that feeling is, but admits that his only failure would be to provoke none at all. “I’m happy for you to be mesmerised or for it to bring rage inside you. I just hope it doesn’t bring indifference. If it does, I’ve failed.”

FiVE NEW EDiTiONS.
